The Sanctuary Course

AN INTRODUCTION TO REFUGEE SAFETY, WELLBEING AND SUPPORT

This course is designed to be followed online in your own time. Each lesson will take you around 20 minutes and includes video segments and interactive elements to aid learning. A certificate will be issued to all who complete the course.

PART ONE - Warsaw to Berlin

As the free flights are no longer available, I have been looking at train journeys from Warsaw to London, and thought I share links and good information.

(the information is based on what I've found available online on today's date - might have changed by the time of travel) 

(there are more direct routes Warsaw to London, I've broken it up in stages as "my family" are travelling with young children) 

Things to check with each railway policy prior boarding:

1. Are you travelling with pet and does the railway company allow pet?

2. Do I need to wear mask? 

3. Are there vaccination guidelines?

4. Is there restrictions in luggage to take with?


"PKP: free travel on all PKP trains with a Ukrainian passport or ID card.

Deutsche Bahn: free travel on all Eurocity trains from Poland to Germany.

Deutsche Bahn: free travel on all trains with a Ukrainian passport, ID card or a “Help Ukraine” ticket available at a DB Reisezentrum (DB travel centres) in any train station."

"From Wednesday, March 9, until further notice, all PKP Intercity trains going from Warsaw, Przemyśl (via Cracow) and Gdynia towards Germany - to Berlin and Frankfurt (Oder) – run in the InterCity (IC) category, which ensures that Ukrainian citizens can travel on them in 2nd class free of charge."

" Citizens of Ukraine, can travel from Poland to Germany in 2nd class seated carriages on trains:

IC no. 60456/456 Nightjet;

IC no. 17008/40 Varsovia;

" Free tickets for Ukrainian citizens

2nd class carriages of TLK and IC trains, which can be used free of charge by Ukrainian citizens since February 26 this year, are fitted with special bilingual labels. In addition, announcements about free travel for Ukrainian citizens on these trains are also made at stations in Ukrainian. Any document confirming Ukrainian citizenship may be used to confirm passenger’s eligibility. Free tickets are distributed by ticket offices as well as on-board staff."

"Current information for Ukrainian citizens and safe travels

On February 28 PKP Intercity started operating a helpline in Ukrainian. It is dedicated number for Ukrainian citizens wishing to obtain information regarding PKP Intercity timetables and other passenger issues in their native language. The lain is available 7 days a week, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at +48 22 473 00 86 (call fee dependent on operator’s tariff) and 800 033 022 (toll-free line for all domestic operators). Information is also available on PKP Intercity website in two language versions – Polish and Ukrainian.

PKP Intercity employees are present at railway stations in Przemyśl, Lublin and Warsaw, where they coordinate the passenger transport, passenger streams and boardings. Mobile stewards and volunteers provide another layer of assistance, handing out necessary information in Ukrainian, too.

Appropriate services watch over safety at railway stations. Also there are Railroad Protection Guard and Police officers on board of some PKP Intercity trains."

INCOME TAX

Income Tax is nuanced and depends on tax residency - we cannot provide tax advice, but we understand that if you are in the UK for longer than 180 days a year you become a tax resident and your income in the Ukraine is classed as ‘foreign income’ that you do need to declare and pay tax on in the UK, but this is also subject to UK/UKR taxation treaties. We are investigating this further with accountants but it is specific to each individual and we would advise you seek out professional advice in all matters to do with running your business and personal taxation.
