Daniel Tarifa
Educating burns victim Daniel Tarifa: ‘a brand plucked from the burning…’
In June 2005, toddler Daniel Tarifa, who lived in a remote village near Yambio in war torn South Sudan, had a horrendous burns accident. There was no medical help available for him. His dad, Rev. Samuel Enosa Peni, was in the U.K. studying. On the day he heard about his son’s dreadful accident, he met Rev. Peter Marshall in London at a meeting. Sharing his news, Peter was able to email Mission Aviation Fellowship Uganda and ask them to do a ‘medivac’ to a hospital burns unit 400 miles away in Kampala, Uganda.
Daniel’s life was saved and, praise God, he made a full recovery.
In November 2005, Peter was able to visit Daniel in his village, the first of ten visits to South Sudan to see Daniel, and also sponsor his education in Uganda.
Over the years Peter has maintained close contact and visited Daniel either in South Sudan or In Uganda.
Daniel is 19 in March, 2023, but because of interruptions, he is two years behind with his education, as many are, not least because of Covid 19.
Peter Marshall, now 88, is seeking sponsors to help with £3,000 p.a. needed to complete Daniel’s education, with the help of Link International Innovation.
Peter tells Daniel’s story in this video:
In 2018, efforts were made for Daniel to go to St. David’s College, Llandudno, but within hours of his departure time, no U.K. visa was granted, so Daniel continued boarding at London College, St Lawrence Schools, Maya.
Daniel’s father is now internal Archbishop of South Sudan and Bishop of Yambio.
