FAQ

Start Up Questions

How will the process work?

  • What if I don't know anyone in or from the Ukraine that needs help?

  • What does a host do?

  • What kind of safety checks will there be?

  • How can I prepare?

  • How can I get the help I need to support people experiencing trauma?

  • What are my next steps?

Do get in touch to discuss any of these questions.

How often should our HUB be open?

This will depend very much on the number of host homes and refugees in your community. However, to have a couple of days when the hub is advertised as being open for about two hours initially might be a good place to start.

If you use your physical HUB and your virtual HUB in tandem, then most questions can be answered via the Facebook Page or Messenger tool and most arrangements for meeting for specific ways to help can be arranged via Messenger too.

To have a poster on the outside of your HUB with opening times and FB address would be helpful.

How many volunteers should we have when we are open?

The minimum number of volunteers should be two working together, not separately and one must have a current DBS with the Church you are hosting in.

When you are running the HUB you should stay in the HUB and not take people off to other places. Those kinds of trips need to be arranged in advance.

EUROPEAN FREEDOM NETWORK

Trauma: Establishing Safety

Video review from an eminent North Wales Counsellor: I found it to be an excellent recap for counselling and listening skills and a good resource for understanding trauma and coping strategies for host families. A recommended resource for them to view before hosting the families.

We are free to share the video or insights you gained from the webinar with our teams, churches, or networks.

Do submit any comments or questions you have from the webinar to: info@europeanfreedomnetwork.org. These will help to design future webinars.

SAFEGUARDING TRAINING - SUPPORTING UKRAINIAN REFUGEES IN WALES

This e-learning course is provided free for those volunteering to support Ukrainians as they arrive and settle into our communities.

There is a Guest Certificate you can print off.

Whilst doing the course, be careful to note the difference between the 5 Categories of Abuse and Other Risks – you will be asked about this in the Quiz at the end.

At the end of the course, you will be required to score 100% on a short quiz.

On the Quiz Results screen, take a screenshot to show you have scored 100%.

You can now email or WhatsApp this screenshot to the organisation that asked you to do the course, to show them that you have completed it.
